3-Picture Story!

I can't think of anything else to post for now, so I'll post a story consisting of only three pictures with completely no narration and let the pictures speak for themselves!

See you for Fast Run @ Bedok Reservoir, 8 am tomorrow!

Graveyard Ramble

For those who have taken the trouble to go down for today's training, you should know that today's training session was... special! Not because of the rain (which wasted 45 mins of time that we coulda spent at home vegetating in front of the computer), but because of the training venue. I mean, how many of us have trained at a cemetary before? o.O

Before we continue with this post, let us take a short moment to mourn the deaths of at least two snails which have been knocked over by our runners during today's training session. *squish* *squish*

...

...

...

Bah, I bet you just scrolled down all the way to this line. =(

Anyway, for those people who didn't turn up today, pre-workout static stretches have been changed to dynamic stretches. Instead of 15 counts, each stretch is now assigned 3 sets of 5 counts. Example: Instead of... let's say, doing the twisty lunge for 15 counts straight, you do 5 counts' worth of stretching first, take a short breath to rest, then go for another 5 counts, rest, and then go for the last 5 counts.

For Sec 3s, there's a gym session tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2pm after school. BRING.A.TOWEL. Or risk getting kicked out of the gym.

Wednesday's training is at RI, 3.30 pm (for all). Easy run.

Thursday's training is at -> RI <- too (don't get the venue wrong!!), 3.30 pm. Speedwork.

And so, that's it for this post. Remember to wish all the injured people a "Get well soon" before you close this window!

"The jogging part during drills is not to get you tired, it's to... ... um... ... keep the blood circulating." - Mr Lim.

Anyway, remember to come for the long run this Saturday (at MacR), cos we're giving out FREE COOKIES!

...

Okay, maybe not. But the team photo for next year's face year book is going to be taken this Saturday. Thus, remember to come down this Saturday whether you like it or not =P

(Stares at Derek)

P.S. REMEMBER to bring / wear the old green jersey to training. If you don't have / can't find the old green one, then bring / wear the new green one. If you don't know which is which, then just bring the green jersey that doesn't feel floppy when you run with it cos that's probably the old green jersey.

On a completely different note, with regards to the overseas learning journey, it's being held over 4 days: 25th Nov to 28th Nov if I recall correctly. More details will be provided by a more omniscient being.

And as such, yet another post is concluded.

11 Oct - 20 Oct

Just a reminder (in case you haven't been checking ur email), tomorrow (Sat, 11 Oct) will be the last time we will meet together as a team for an optional training session before the EOYs are over - which happens to be exactly 10 days from the date of this post. TRY to maintain your fitness during these 10 days when we don't meet together as a team to train. Quoting straight from the email: "Three times a week 40min easy/moderate run is good enough. I suggest you go for your run in the evening the day after your paper, before studying at night for the next paper. It will help to de-stress.".

By the way, if you open your MSN, I believe that you'll see lots of "countdown" messages being pinned onto various peoples' personal messages. Open up your own MSN window if you don't believe this statement =) Either than, or you see weird stuff like "Gah!" or "Noo! Ima gonna die!" hanging onto peoples' personal messages.

Anyway, on Wednesday (15/10/2008):
Sec 1s: History + CSP/MSP.
Sch ends at 1145h
Sec 2s: Geography + CSP/MSP.
Sch ends at 1145h
Sec 3s: Mother Tongue Language [ =( ] + Chemistry.
Sch ends at 1300h
Sec 4s: Chemistry + History.
Sch ends at 1245h

For people who take 3rd language, paper-checking still takes place next Monday (13/10) and next Tuesday (14/10). After that, marks are finalised and will be sent to RI as your final mark for "French/German/Japanese".

By the way, did you know that MOELC rounds OFF your 3rd language marks, instead of UP? Whereas for other school-based subjects, your marks are rounded UP (Or at least, that's what has been done the previous year). Stingy MOELC teachers ftl.

So, yeah, that's it for this post.

60 hours left.

That's right. From the time of this post, there are approximately 60 hours (2 sf) left until the start of the EOYs on Friday. That's still a considerable amount of mugging time left!

What's happening on Friday (10/10/2008):
Sec 1s: English Language + Mother Tongue Language.
Sch ends at 1230h
Sec 2s: English Language + Mother Tongue Language.
Sch ends at 1230h
Sec 3s: English Language + Social Studies.
Sch ends at 1215h
Sec 4s: English Language + Social Studies.
Sch ends at 1200h
MOELC 3rdLang ppl: 1st day of 3rdLang paper checking

On the good side, two weeks from now, we'll be released from the grasps of the EOY papers! EOYs are like long runs. They last for a reeeeaaaallllllllyyyy loooooooooooong period of time, and you can't escape from the torture.

[ But I think I'd rather choose to do a long run, compared to sitting for an EOY paper and being forced to mug for it. =( ]

And in case anyone didn't know what the "Gold Shoe" was during Prometheum Day today, here's a quote from 2008-2009 Captain Lee (taken from his blog):

"Anyway since its Promethium tomorrow I shall talk about the CROSS SYMBOL OMG ITS LIKE FRIGGIN NICE. Its like a golden shoe in a super super ex but nice frame its like probably the nicest every symbol. Mind you there was ALOT of effort put into this symbol so I really love it. But its like glass I'm friggin scared we drop it on stage. That would be an ULTIMATE DISASTER.Like nothing more ultimate than that." -Guan Lin

Apparently, it's a running shoe encased in a glass box with lots of glitter stuck onto it. Btw, the glitter made the shoe look REALLY shiny. Shiny thingys look nice =)

おめでとう!

(If your computer doesn't allow Japanese script, you probably can't see the title =P)
(And I know I screwed up the first version of this post, so this is a post patch. Paiseh, was mugging for Jap oral while making this post)

Anyway, the title reads "Congratulations!" in Japanese. If you can't see the title, you can substitute those funny square thingys which appear in the title with the words "Congratulations!" =D

K, so let's get down to introducing our three significant figures (3 sf!) of Year 2009...

First, we have 2009 B-DIV CAPTAIN LEENI LEE GUAN LIN!

By the way, this is a *random* reminder not to twist your neck like that when you're talking on the handphone, cuz it strains the side of your neck which is supporting the phone on your shoulder. In other words, if you do this too much, it's bad for your neck!

Next, we have B-DIV VICE-CAPTAIN SEOW!

Watch him embrace the camera with his _ _ _ _ _ _ finger!
(No prize for guessing the missing word)

And last but not least, there's C-DIV CAPTAIN YEOW!

A certain person in this picture should note that it's not nice to chew a piece of aloe vera when posing for a photo. =X Can you spot the piece of aloe vera...?
P.S. Notice the height differences!
P.P.S. Omg, that was mean.
P.P.P.S. Okay, nevermind.
P.P.P.P.S. Yeow rhymes with Seow!
P.P.P.P.P.S. This is random...

On a completely different note, the MOELC 3rd Lang EOYs are here!!!
This is a significant moment of the year, due to the fact that when the MOELC EOYs are over, one should prepare for the onslaught of the RI EOY papers within 2 weeks' time. Time is short, so get busy with your mugging today! Otherwise you'll end up like Seow who labels himself as an "at risk student" =P

Derek Milkcurd Syndrome

If you were there for training this Monday, you should know what the "Derek Milkcurd Syndrome" is about. =)

In case you don't, the DMS first started when Derek ordered a cup of mango milkcurd from the PopCafe immediately after training ended at RI Field. Then, he brought it to the RI stadium steps and started eating it on the spot. Some of us who were staring at him got free samplez! Mmm, mango milkcurd... ... ... ...

If you haven't tried it before (and you're not allergic to mango pudding/ milkcurd), I recommend you to try it! But wait, READ THIS -> I dismiss myself of all responsibilities if you catch DMS!!

And the DMS has recently affected another individual:

Hah. So much for the DMS.

Since there's still quite a bit of space left on this post, I'll fill it in with an advertisement!

Compare both pictures below:

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE.
SPOT THE DIFFERENCE.

Actually, there's not much of a difference. It's just that the picture on top was the original one, and the picture below is the edited version. Notice the blurred out background. Aha! I know what you're thinking! No... it's not photoshop! Photoshop is for rich ppl. It's a programme called GIMP (stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program), which is awesome if you don't have photoshop. Nevertheless, it's still slightly inferior to Photoshop though =( But it's still good for a free product!

Bii Nine Fuss! (No prize for guessing what this means)

Bedok Reservoir TimeTrial 17-9-2008

Here's a quote from Wikipedia regarding the definition of a TimeTrial:
"In many racing sports an athlete (or occasionally a team of athletes) will compete in a time trial against the clock to secure the fastest time."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_trial

In case you haven't already noticed, the run at Bedok Reservoir today was a TimeTrial! =)

...

What a cliche way to start off a blog post. Bleahx.

Anyway, here are some peektures! Prepare for a relatively not-so-interesting blog post as I was stuck at the back of the bus for the whole trip to Bedok and couldn't get many pictures. Anyway, in addition to that, I believe that all of us were sooooooo busy warming up for the timetrial, that none of us would have the time to take photos... right? (Prods you to make you agree)

1. Hmm, what's MChia doing? o.O
[ Note that adopting this position will instantly render one vulnerable to a poke to the side! Now why didn't anyone think of that...? (K nvm, that was mean. =X) ]

2. Ooh. A very lively bus. Or at least, "lively" only when compared to Pictures 4 and 6...

3. Sunglasses as a fashion accessory, as shown by Sam Soh "Cool"
[ One of the OLDEST XCountry puns ever =.= ]

4. A picture speaks a thousand words =)

5. o.O That position is plain weird o.O o.O o.O o.O (No offence)

6. The bus has turned so... surreal...! I can't believe almost everyone at the back of the bus was sleeping.

If anyone else has other pictures to upload, they are welcome to do so =P

By the way, special pictures of the new C-Div and B-Div Captains will be retained for a super-special blog post this weekend! Stay tuned!

On a completely different note, I believe that our current "blogskin" is under some controversy. Looks like we can expect the XCountry blog to change abit in the following months...

RANDOM FACT BEFORE ENDING THIS POST OFF: The XCountry e-group was founded in 2004, which was quite some time before our current batch of Sec 4s had joined RI!! Actually, I only realised this a few moments ago (before publishing this post, of course!), when randomly surfing through the e-group.

T4 W2 TimeTrial

Just a reminder, there will be a TIMETRIAL held this Wednesday, 17th September, at Bedok Reservoir. Remember to bring your racing gear (eg. Racers, Jersey etc) to the TimeTrial! Eat and sleep well on the day before the TimeTrial, as you're going to need the energy =).

There will be a chartered bus from RI Parade Square to Bedok Reservoir on 17th September at 1530h. Please come down on time so you don't hold up the whole team!

And while I'm still writing this post, I'd like to blame Derek for causing some members of our team to blow multiples of $1.30 on mango "milkcurd" today. =P Which includes me. =.=
But dang, that mango milkcurd was nice!!

NIE Road Relay 22-08-2008

Yep, it's another road relay race, similar to that of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Only that this time, there's cash involved. Ooo.

Anyway, the NIE Relay, for those who didn't participate or still don't know what it is, was held at NIE Jurong West. The initial team listings were as follows:

TEAM 1: Zhiming, Varun, Ben, Guan Lin, Yeong Yang, Shi Kai
TEAM 2: Yi Yan, Matthias, Kok Peng, Samuel, Nathaneal, Cho Han

However, Samuel + Matthias were unable to make it for the race (o.O), so Chew and Wilbert fill in for them.

On the actual day, the bus left RI for NIE at 3.10 pm. Reached NIE about a half hour later.

But for now...

PEEKTURES! On the way there:

1. Seow khops WWW's X-Men comic which he has borrowed from a library.

2. Conversation going on at the back of the bus o.O

3. Guan Lin joins in the conversation. Talked til he started flapping. (I think the convo was about CCTS. Can't really remember what it was about exactly. But I do recall that part of the conversation involved pointing at Mr. Lim's car which was behind the bus, and acknowledging the vast similarity between his blue car and an adjacent blue car.)

4. Captain's "mona lisa" look.

5. Enjoying solitary time on the bus!

And as such, time flies and we soon arrive at NIE! There, we met the first obstacle of the day...

6. The stairway to the sky! A looooooooooooooooooooooooooong way up indeed.

7. Pre-race briefing by Mr. Lim.
"Aiyah, I thought I told you your team is supposed to wear the white jersery?"

8. More pre-race preparations.

9. We lug our bags to under the "shelter". Shortly after that, we drag them back to the corridor. Therefore, work done is equivalent to 0.

And so we get on with the race! Zhiming of Team 1 darts off with a good start, finishing with an incredible timing for 7 mins 53 secs for the 2.4 km. Yi Yan, first runner of Team 2, arrives exactly one minute after that. After the third runner finished his leg of the race, RI Team 1 and Team 2 were 1st and 3rd respectively. Not content with being 3rd ($100 prize difference between 2nd and 3rd places!!), RI Team 2 contends for the 2nd placing. WWW and Seow swap teams halfway through in order to close up the huge timing gap in between both teams. In the end, RI Team 2 eventually manages to finish overall 1st runner's up, losing only to RI Team 1. Whoa. (By the way, most of the 2.4km times were sub 9 mins)

In other words:
1st - RI Team 1 ($500)
2nd - RI Team 2 ($400)

More PEEKTURES! After the race:

10. Talking about the race. (Almost) everyone compares timings with each other.

11. Slacking after the race.

12. Ben is mesmerised by the band.

13. Ooh. Night falls. The mugger-ish nature of Rafflesians starts to pop out as worksheets are taken out of their respective bags, and are finished on the spot.

14. Waiting for the lucky draw to pass so that the prize presentation would come sooner.

OMGOMG. I believe this is the first ever "lucky" draw in which Raffles has won ZERO lucky draw prizes. We actually lost to the luckiest school by SIX prizes. And I actually think that the super-lucky school had won a greater monetary value of prizes compared to our $500 (1st place) + $400 (2nd place) = $900 from the race. Wow, talk about being extremely TYCO.

15. Notice Seow's drooping head in the background. Ben gets impatient waiting for the prize presentation and succumbs to the temptations of his antisocial machine.
"Wahlao, why the prize winners' number tags all start with either 'D' or 'F' one!?" (Waves number tag which begins with 'C') "Unfair!!!"

The prize presentation really didn't seem like a prize presentation. No medals were involved. "Currency presentation", anyone?

And as such, we walk off to eat dinner, where we were able to capture the picture of the day...

===> EPIC PICTURE OF THE DAY <===

Towards the end of the meal, Captain Yong rushes the team off to catch the Mens' 4x100m relay race. Jamaica owns the race, and breaks the previous world record by 0.3 secs.

And with that, I sign off with...
SINE FINIBUS.

Wilbert.
