Hey guys!

It's the end of EOYs! (At least to most of you all). Miss the wonderful times with you all.

guys what is this? why so empty? all your lives so boring ah?

now let me give you all an insight into the life of a cross-country retiree, something which i'm sure none of you have experienced yet, though rest assured you all will in due course.

first and foremost you lose your tan. i used to have nice, singlet-shaped tan lines that left my arms looking all bronzed and sexy. now, having transferred to an indoor sport, i hardly have any tan lines. even if i do get some from pe, its those ugly t-shirt ones that leaves my arm looking like a yin-yang symbol.

secondly, you get fat. yup, sad but true, cross country retirees do get fat. and if even i get fat, what more you guys xD. my abs have lost its definition, while my obliques have certainly shrunk in size. obliques are the muscles above your hip bones, the one you get from doing side-planks. on another note, do do your exercises, they really help.

on a related issue, i do now have to watch what i eat. contrary to popular belief, quitting cross country does NOT mean you get to eat what you like. far from it! rather you have to watch your diet more than ever. when you're training you know that whatever you eat will be burned off anyway, be it on that 12km long run on saturday or the 40min ez run. now, you know that whatever goes in, stays in.

but there are certainly benefits. i do not walk around the school wincing at every step i take, as a result of that killer interval set the day before that made my body ache like mad. i get to sleep in on saturday mornings legitimately, seeing how i have nothing on and nothing to skip, for the matter.

you also start to appreciate competition more. now when i browse the newspapers and see advertisements for the new balance real run, or the nike human race, i get tempted to just signup and run. this never happened when i was training competitively. i remember dreading before every race, including vomiting my lunch out for the two times that i took part in track nats. to happen once is bad enough, but twice? i was making it a habit, man. i hated competing. now, i'm itching to run and compete again, though the thought of training kinda puts me off. but i think i will join some race again, in due course.

that's all i have for now(partly cause i'm lazy ._.) but yea, cross is not as bad as it seems. train hard guys, good luck.

3 WEEKS LEFT.
(If you haven't already marked 25th March on your calendar, now would be a good time to do so.)

Oh, and the chatbox seems to have disappeared...
Offering a reward of (insert reasonable-sounding amount) for its safe return!

No, seriously, where did the chatbox go?

RIXC expands into FaceBook!

As Ben has already mentioned in one of his previous e-mails, a RAFFLES CROSS COUNTRY group has been established on FaceBook! (set up on the 19th/20th Feb I think)

Link to the group:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=55661535043
[GRP NAME: Ex/Present RI Cross Country]

So if you have a FaceBook account, don't delay, click into da link and join the RIXC group today! Dang, this sounds like an advert.
(NOTE: You need to have a FB account to view the page)

I believe Ben has already sent out invites (to the FB group) to some of us via e-mail. If you don't feel like clicking the link above (maybe it's a virus, heh heh) you can just access it from your e-mail.

And so we end off with the usual...

*Interesting* Quotes...

----------

(On WINGS C'ships race day...)

(Wears number tag on shirt front)
Random guy: "OMG this number tag is damn heavy - keeps flopping around when running"
Derek: "Now you know how it feels like to be a girl and run =P"

----------

(Long run today)
GL: Ben, you see your whole family full of leaders. Got so many prefects. Then you leh?
Ben: Wha-at?
GL: You should have the leadership gene mah
Cheng Lu: Maybe it's a recessive allele...

The Return

WooHoo!!

Sam says he is coming back tomorrow!

The return of a long lost companion.
The return of Yeong Yang's accomplice

Saturday, February 7, 2009

I never knew Seow had a dog until I read the post below o.O

Anyone recognise this pair of shoes...?

Yeah well you should cos they'll be your future pair of racers for this year. =P
The shop attendant said the Size 9.5 shoes weigh about 130g, which is seriously quite light. So imagine the weight of a pair of 6-7 size shoes on Reuben and Shafiq! And of course, we have the double-digit-size people such as WWW. But it doesn't really matter much.

Anyway...

Treadmill frenzy!!

I believe that was the first time *most* of us have been onto the NB Shop treadmill, no?

Yeah, the pictures were taken on Thursday, so the Friday people won't be in them =(

And on a completely different note...
omg omg Sean looks so so so so different in an RJC PE T-Shirt!!!! *Yes, I know this is very random*

But before we end this post, I'd like to direct you to Yi Yan's blog (look towards the links on the right) and read the Feb 7 post. It gives another insight to the concept of "Seow-ness". =D

Landmark and Trivia

Hi guys,
Today was another historic moment for the Raffles X-C team as we had our first LONG RUN at Bedok Reservoir.

on a completely unrelated note...
Did you know that Yeong Yang's dog is called yoyo? He says that from today we can call him seow yoyo.

o.O XCountry library mugging!

Let's start off with a quote from SEAN. =)
"Walao, in my four years of being in Raffles Cross Country, I have NEVER seen a time when so many crossers gather together to study" -Sean Lim

... Okay, so maybe not everyone was studying. We had some people like Ben flipping through some magazines (Reader's Digest?) to look for *certain types of* pictures and forgetting to put the magazines back at the end of the day. And then Leeni and Derek were arguing about sleeping in class for some time. And we also found a really really really thick Biology book which was so thick that it's probably taller than most of your rulers.

Pics were taken before today's (28/1/09) training. Enjoy!

And we end off with an amazing picture... The ultimate >.< face

EVER seen EVERest with specs? (excuse the pun)

=P

Heya, in case you haven't noticed yet, there's a new gadget towards the right side of the blog!

...

No, not the clock!

Scroll down a little...

Not there yet...

Almost there....

If this post is still at the top, you should be able to see it from here =)

I've decided (some time ago) to compile past photos into a FaceBook album instead of smacking them all onto this blog, cos there's a limit to the number of photos you can upload onto Blogger. So for those of you who haven't seen the pictures from last year's Learning Journey to KL, the link is just there. Actually, Ben has another album, but I can't put his link there unless he adjusts his FB settings. (*poke*, *poke*, Ben)

So I guess that's it for this post.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!
新年快乐!
あけまして おめでとうございます!
(Don't bother putting the Japanese one into a translator cos it probably doesn't work)

Raffles Trail De-Briefing

The Raffles Trail on Friday seriously went quite well (Of course that's a good thing!) Other than the occasional not-very-noticable screw ups from time to time, the whole thing felt quite good... Especially for the parts during which our model Sam Soh presented about our jerseys and official race attire =) Yes, I'm very sure you can still remember what he presented about... =P

Okay, on to the main points.

Sec 3s... first of all - Welcome back from OBS! You all were really lucky cos it didn't rain during OBS this year. (Yes, the temperature in Pulau Ubin drops by ALOT when it rains) Hopefully some of you have been paying attention to what we did during the Raffles Trail two days ago cos your batch is going to be spearheading next year's Raffles Trail for the batch of 2013! =P (Yea, we've been using the same format for our Raffles Traill booth the past two or three years)

Sec 1s and 2s, it was seriously nice to hear some of your XCountry experiences after having spent one or more years in RIXC. And in one year's time, you all will be helping out next year's Sec 4 batch with the Raffles Trail, so hopefully some of you guys picked up some pointers to take note of as well. ;)

On a less serious note, it was nice to relieve some Sec 1 memories (when our current Sec 4 batch was Sec 1) by looking through some old photos taken in 2006. Come to think of it, it feels kinda weird to know a batch 3 years older than us and a batch 3 years younger than us o.O

And, of course, some pictures to accompany this post! (The ones that some of you were so despo to see during the Raffles Trail) These are the pictures in one of Mr. Lim's CDs, the ones that were taken in Year 2006, when some of us were really, really sma... ... ... ... never mind.

"The Shi Kai picture"

Can you tell who's who?
And as usual, this post ends off with...
SINE FINIBUS.
